'Shut Up and Go Away;' Liberal MHA Advises Former Premier to Take his own Advice

No more cozy lunches for Freddie Hutton with Danny and his publicist wife.

Last week’s little Fred tantrum about Churchill Falls did that in.

Shut up and go away, Danny, sez Fred on the now host-less Open Line. Danny is back in the news because he gave a few thousands to the Pea Seas to kick Fred to the opposition benches and Danny is proud of it.

Then Fred told VOCM listeners a lie: Danny left us MF - the Liberals could have stopped the whole mess in 2015 but decided to plough ahead anyway - and the give-away deal Fred was part of would pay for it - which is both not true and also a clue as to how little the Furey crowd actually understood the deal they signed.

He also left out that what the Liberals signed off on as a “rate mitigation”: strategy was actually the plan Danny Williams had in 2010 to force local ratepayers to cover the whole bill plus profit and a new tax on the locals.

Cringy but funny at the same time.

Remind us all how politically stupid you are, Liberals, without saying so flat out.

But that’s not last week’s big political story in Newfieland.

Nor is the Big Story about the links between Danny Williams and John Hogan:

  • Both Premiers promised election finance reform and neither did anything. Now Hogan is calling for election finance reform.

  • Both delivered stupid energy deals in Labrador (Williams championed his but Hogan was along for the ride. A distinction without a difference.)

  • John Hogan delivered Danny Williams Muskrat Falls as Williams intended right down to saddling taxpayers/ratepayers with the full cost.

No.

The Big Story is that the Pea Seas are in the same political mess in 2026 as the Liberals were after 2016 and for the same reason.

For more than 20 years, Bond Papers has been afflicting the politically comfortable to comfort those afflicted by their blathering. To read on, and to keep on top of what’s happening in Newfoundland and Labrador, become a Bond Papers subscriber.
