There’s lead and a raft of other commonly-occurring but potentially dangerous metals in tampons, according to new research released by the University of California at Berkley earlier this month and published by ScienceDirect.

There’s no evidence in the study that this means anything, though. In fact, the summary of the research includes this interesting sentence:

“Future research is needed to replicate our findings and determine whether metals can leach out of tampons and cross the vaginal epithelium into systemic circulation.”

It’s right at the end.

In plain English:

  • Someone needs to double check our results and

  • Someone needs to figure out if this research matters.
