The last part of my summer has been given over to reading things I wouldn’t normally dive into. Like Hunter S. Thompson’s columns and books, most of which I hadn’t read. Sure, I had read about Las Vegas and the 1972 election but there were tons of other columns and books and letters that simply didn’t catch my eye.

Otherwise, I have kept my usual reading to a minimum the past couple of weeks. Still, the four suggestions below are meaty. Wendy Mesley’s is an especially worthwhile take on the Lisa LaFlamme issue.

  • Wendy Mesley has some thoughts on Lisa LaFlamme.

  • Nathaniel Rachman on Gorbachev’s legacy

  • Sam Freedman on the new British cabinet

  • Paul Wells on what the Liberals will do now that summer’s over and school is back.

The fall and winter will be most interesting. Stay on top of things by becoming a paid subscriber.
