Two are about politics in other Canadian provinces. Both are about political transformations in provinces, hence the title of the reading list.
Both books will come up now and again in the course of the year, particularly in a piece I have had in mind for a while on political and economic periods in Newfoundland and Labrador. Not a deep dive. Just a framework to think about and some major characteristics of phases that will help explain why I keep referring to the post 2003 period as being starkly different from what went before. It fits with the theme of looking to the future that will run through a few columns this year.
The third book is a collection of private letters. It doesn’t fit but that transformation theme but there are always things and people that don’t fit.
