This week’s reading list’s got more than its fair share of podcasts and interviews.
S’pose that makes it less of a reading list than it is a Listening Post.
*rim shot*
Start out with a fascinating archaeology report of the Twin Falls power plant. It provided power for the mines and communities in western Labrador before Churchill Falls.
Then check out the column in Le Devoir that appeared on the weekend about the background to the 1969 Power Contract. Andrew Furey should pay Le Devoir for this since it is a better job of educating people on the origins of CF(L)Co and the 1969 contract than anything his Genius Committee did. (Education was part of its mandate.)
Monday’s column will give a broader set-up to the current talks but with one major star over it. What happened in the past is over. We need to be thinking of today and tomorrow and work in that space.
Even this video is better than what the Furey committee produced. YouTube can give you English subtitles.
Update:
Thanks to a helpful and long-time reader, here are sopme simple instructions on how to get the translation working:
0. Open the video on YouTube (browser or app)
1. On the bottom right of the YouTube play screen make sure CC is selected
(CC and other icons may be in the upper right if you are using a phone app to do this)
2. Click on the Settings (gear) icon
The rest of the list is about American history (Black History Month), Canadian history, and the Ukraine. Subscribers can just scroll down. Everyone else can click the link, become a Bond Papers subscriber, and carry on.
