Some news reports Tuesday night said the Liberals took every poll in Conception Bay East - Bell Island.

They didn’t.

The result was close: only 450 votes separated winner Fred Hutton from challenger Tina Neary. Kim Churchill was a far-distant third but her party did not seriously contest the seat. The NDP never seriously contest any seat outside a couple or three.

Doesn’t matter that this is a by-election. In Newfoundland and Labrador, seats often go to one or another candidate based on some pretty close margins of a few votes here and there in each poll. It seldom takes much of a swing to change the outcome.
