Last Sunday, three of the candidates in the Conception Bay East-Bell Island by-election debated during an event on Bell Island.

Questions came up about ferry service and the health centre on the island.

And someone asked about roads.

Regular roads plan said the Pea Sea candidate Tina Neary.

Pressure the government to give money to municipalities, said the Dipper Kim Churchill.

I got a list from the Wabana town council said Liberal Fred Hutton. Then Fred added the bit that made the news.

When I am your MHA, I will be able to pick up the phone and call the transportation minister and say, 'These roads … need to be done in this year's budget,' and they will be done.

There’s so much about this off-the-cuff comment that just makes you wince.
